What to Do: National Parks, Lakes & Reserves
The Black Swamp
A fascinating eco-system and abundant birdlife await visitors at the Black Swamp, just near the Cleveland Railway Station. Boardwalks and interpretive signs help you as you take in the eerie atmosphere, view ibis resting by day and thousands of awakening flying foxes at dusk.
Go Bush
By day, vegetation hides a bustling community of wildlife at Venman Bushland Reserve, Mt Cotton, but at dawn and dusk there's plenty of movement. This is a great barbeque and picnic area, with walking tracks taking you through bushland and over creeks. The Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, a native botanical garden at Capalaba, is another easily accessed area with abundant wildlife, including koalas, and gardens displaying local wildflowers. Walk the trails, get advice on the use of native plants, have a picnic or sample tearoom delights from a verandah overlooking bushland.
Parklands
Try the Capalaba Regional park with its expansive grounds and lily filled lagoon or watch the world go by on land and sea from Raby Bay Harbour Park or the parklands and reserves of Wellington Point, Cleveland Point, Victoria Point and Redland Bay. Getting back to nature is easy in the Redlands. Just tread carefully and keep your eyes open!
